General Sustainability Updates - June 2024
Date Posted 07 June 2024

We have compiled our carbon emission data for 2023, with approval now being granted with regards to the auditing process for our data!

We can now state that we have eliminated the use of propane in our forklifts and we have now moved the remainder of the company cars used by our Area Sales Executives over to plug in hybrid vehicles, reducing our carbon emissions from fuel from 60tCO2e to 36.16tCO2e in the past year. We are hoping to move to fully electric vehicles throughout our fleet in the coming years.

Even though we have recently moved into a much larger building, through installing a highly efficient boiler, careful control of heating, and not heating unnecessary spaces, we have managed to keep our gas consumption to roughly the same usage as in our significantly smaller building. The next step for BELL will be to reduce this usage by moving to electric based heating through our AC units.

Finally, we hope to reduce our electricity usage by limiting the operating hours of our building, we also hope to balance or reduce the emissions from our electricity usage by investing in solar panels to our roof. We are also in the process of calculating our Scope 3 emissions and we hope to have our baseline calculated next year.

Sustainability, and continuing to introduce circular economy focussed products into our range, remains vitally important for our business and we will be exhibiting at this year's Circular Lighting Live to showcase our work in this arena. We hope to be able to champion circular economy products, like our Firestay Geo LED Sustainable Modular Downlight, by releasing fittings of this nature into our range in the near future.
